At Hegemony Global School, World Literacy Day was celebrated with a message that went far beyond textbooks and classrooms. This year's special assembly, planned and hosted entirely by our students in collaboration with the English Department, reminded everyone that literacy is a lifelong skill that belongs to every member of our community.
The highlight of the celebration was a heartfelt segment
where two members of our housekeeing staff were invited to the stage to introduce
themselves, share the work they do at school and speak about what they love
most about being part of our community. In the days leading up to the assembly,
our teachers worked closely with them, helping them find the confidence to
express their thoughts in English - marking one of our first steps toward
extending literacy and learning to every member of our school community. Though
they carried a natural hesitation about speaking in front of an audience of
students, that nervousness soon gave way to warmth, as they were met with
genuine encouragement and applause. One of them spoke fondly of their love for
the students, a simple moment that touched everyone in the room and reminded us
that connection is at the heart of every school day.
Our Principal closed the assembly with an inspiring address
on the far-reaching impact of education, echoing the timeless words of Nelson
Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to
change the world." Her message reinforced that when we uplift even one
individual through learning, we strengthen our entire community.
