From the farm to the future - Students get growing with Kaushal Bodh (June 6)

This week at HGS, two grades stepped away from their desks and into the world of farming - each in their own way, as part of the CBSE Kaushal Bodh Vocational Education Programme 2026–27.

Grade 6 took on the School Kitchen Garden Project under the theme Life Forms. All 42 students, together with school leadership and faculty, transformed the school farm into a proper working garden. Divided into five groups, they loosened soil, prepared seed beds and sowed tomato, potato, pumpkin, watermelon, brinjal and bean seeds - finishing up with cocopeat and a good watering. It wasn't just a gardening exercise; it was a full, guided experience of where food actually comes from. The garden will continue to be cared for daily, making it a living classroom right on campus.

Meanwhile, Grade 8 dived into Hydroponics - exploring what it looks like to grow plants without soil at all. Students visited a farm to observe soil preparation and seed sowing, then watched a video on hydroponic farming to understand how nutrient-rich water can replace traditional growing methods. Back in the classroom, they sowed coriander seeds in pots and began recording observations on germination. From next week, the activity extends into a water-based hydroponic setup, letting students compare both methods side by side.

Two different activities, two different grades - but the same idea at the heart of it: real learning happens when students get their hands involved.
