🌞 Introduction: On 18th August, we were excited to share an incredible science-related activity that took place at Hegemony Global School premises – the Zero Shadow Day activity. is Zero Shadow Day? Zero Shadow Day is a unique
event when the Sun is directly overhead, causing objects on the Earth's surface
to cast no visible shadows. This phenomenon occurs twice a year in most places
– once during the Sun's northward journey and once during its southward
journey. It is an amazing opportunity for students and teachers alike to learn
about the Earth's tilt and the movement of the Sun.

Activity Overview: Our school organized a special
activity to mark Zero Shadow Day, where students from all the grades
participated. The goal was to understand why this phenomenon occurs and how it
relates to the Earth's axial tilt. Here is what we did:
Introduction to Zero Shadow Day: The activity began with a brief presentation explaining the concept
of Zero Shadow Day during assembly and even if in the classroom. We discussed
how the Earth's tilt affects the angle of the Sun's rays and consequently, the
visibility of shadows.
Outdoor Observation: Students went outside to observe the changing shadows at a12.24 p.m. They were instructed to form a circle.
Students reconvened for a discussion with the respective Science and SST
teacher.
Reflection:
The activity concluded with a reflection session, where students expressed
their thoughts on the learning experience. They shared how observing shadows in
real-time helped them grasp the abstract concept of Earth's axial tilt.
